Hemp or Hemp Not? a.k.a Hemp-based, eco friendly construction or the old technologies?

Why hemp?

Why not?!

As a construction technician, I spent more than a decade building houses, shopping malls, renovating old buildings, working with different materials but when I saw the hempcrete first time about 10 years ago, I knew that is something special.

All-In-One material that can be harvested every 3-4 months and grows like weed in the garden,  super easy to work with but mainly it’s carbon-negative!

We can use it for thousands of things! We can build houses, people have built cars out of hemp, you can make food and supplements, clothes, fuel, electricity, and so on.

This plant could be the plant for planet Earth, like the Spice was in the universe, in the movie back in the days: Dune.

Of course, we could have free energy, could get rid of all the plastics from our life, we could also use fewer trees from the forests and we absolutely could get rid of the oil and coal industry and most of the most “unhealthy” industries as it is.

We could use only one plant for almost everything!  Doesn’t it sound nice?

The video I saw was about the pressure test and they put the concrete and hemp blocks in a hydraulic pressure tester, and then burned them, drill them and torture them to pieces to compare the two materials. This was amazing to see that the hempcrete was almost the same as the concrete if not better (I believe overall, to build with hemp is better if we look at the hustle, the wide variety of materials you need when you build with old technology, the transport and other extra costs, time and pressure…but it’s just my personal opinion)  and when we think about what the two blocks are made of… still unbelievable for me.

As I dived deeper the data shows that in Europe in 2020 the total hemp production was about 50000 ha while at the beginning of the last century it was around 1,5 –  2 million hectares. We have to grow the production that means at least 20* more hemp fields would be necessary to cover the needs(agriculture development), not to mention all the things that come with it like more factories, retail, and wholesale points, etc.

Finally, I have the opportunity to honor the plant soI created the HempNet.

The HempNet is a Hemp-Lover community where members are working together, connecting and communicating, sharing information and knowledge about Hemp, Hemp Products, construction tech, art, ideas, sharing each-other courses, and spreading the news about new learning opportunities. and other fun stuff aiming to help the Hemp industry together. …but this is a community-driven thing, which means, I don’t want to tell you what will happen, I want the community to discuss and decide what would help Us the most to reach Our Goal!

…cos we all know, this plant could change the World for the better!
